As Time flies by
Technology flies even faster

There are many ways to do arithmetic or calculate, on the Chinese Abacus, on the fingers of your hands and if need be your toes, using a slide rule or a calculator. With the more recent event of computers came the need to be able to store data or information and it wouldn't do to have an Abacus in a big box because this "Data" came in electronic pulses to be stored on magnetic material, "Tape" later on "Floppy discs" and "CD's".  Hard drives were very complicated and expensive to produce and the early ones were definitely for your desk top computer.

Evolution of mobile phones, to an early smartphone

Some time ago I noticed an older fellow carrying an antique cell phone of huge proportions, I asked him why he carried that thing, it's very simple he said, I'm a night watchman and I have to have a phone, this thing is indestructible and it makes a terrific weapon !         Like I said versatile !

A smartphone is a mobile phone (also known as cell phones or cell mobiles) with an advanced mobile operating system that combines features of a personal computer operating system with other features useful for mobile or handheld use.[1][2][3] Smartphones, which are usually pocket-sized, typically combine the features of a mobile phone, such as the abilities to place and receive voice calls and create and receive text messages, with those of other popular digital mobile devices like personal digital assistants (PDAs), such as an event calendar, media player, video games, GPS navigation, digital camera and digital video camera. Smartphones can access the Internet and can run a variety of third-party software components ("apps" from Google Play Store, Apple App Store etc). They typically have a color display with a graphical user interface that covers more than 76% of the front surface. The display is almost always a touchscreen and sometimes additionally a touch-enabled keyboard like the Priv/Passport BlackBerrys, which enables the user to use a virtual keyboard to type words and numbers and press onscreen icons to activate "app" features.
In 1999, the Japanese firm NTT DoCoMo released the first smartphones to achieve mass adoption within a country.[4] Smartphones became widespread in the late 2000s. Most of those produced from 2012 onward have high-speed mobile broadband 4G LTE, motion sensors, and mobile payment features. In the third quarter of 2012, one billion smartphones were in use worldwide.[5] Global smartphone sales surpassed the sales figures for regular cell phones in early 2013.[6]

The Cell phone, mobile phone or smartphone
Has changed the way we live and interact with others
I'm sure you have been in Restaurants where at a table for four or more all the guests are on their telephone or in Doctors waiting room the patients aren't even talking to their companions but they are on their phones.  I'm sure that it is only a matter of time and the art of conversation will be a thing of the past.

Writing is a pleasure that allows me to tell people a story of interest to myself which I hope will also be of interest to them, a true story of life, my life with a bit of history and happenings along the way.
